Monterey Park Library Mural..VOTE!

I'm one of eight artists chosen as a finalist to produce a public mural for the
Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library.

They have posted all the artwork up for public review and voting.
Please go to their website and vote for me and feel free to comment as well!

I'm honored to be in such good company with some fabulous artists like my friends
Paul Botello, Mario Torero, and Ricardo Mendoza.

But since I'm the only graff artist in the lineup it would be nice to get the gig!

Below is the narrative for the mural...

“Creatures of Imagination”

The mural depicts three young children laughing and sharing a good time. Together they read a make-believe book entitled, “Creatures of Imagination”, that teaches kids to imagine fantastic creatures in their everyday surroundings. The kids sit and play on the grassy areas in front of Monterey Park's Cascade Park and the historic “El Encanto” building as they look up into the sky and create magical creatures with the clouds passing by overhead.

They each imagine a mythical dragon from cultural pasts. The Chinese dragon evokes a symbol of cosmic Chi (energy) as well as good fortune. The Mayan dragon, a symbol for the god of rain, shows his face in the center of the mural. On the left, a European dragon rises from the horizon to protect its treasure from Medieval knights of mythical times.

With this mural my intent is to bring unity to the community through cultural pride, historical sensibility, and the joy of reading. The message is that although we may have differences, when we read and learn about our common histories and cultures, we can imagine and create a beautiful future and world together, starting with Monterey Park.
